Cabanda Care Inc is located in Rosewood a regional town located 20km west of Ipswich. Opening in 1987 as a 26-bed hostel, Cabanda was a vision of the local community to provide an aged care facility where people could age in the community they lived in.
Since then, we have grown to include a 71 Bed Residential Aged Care Facility, a retirement village with 42 independent living units, Centre based Respite and Social Care Group, Home and Community Care, Meals on Wheels, Community Transport, and the Cabanda Café.
Cabanda is the largest employer in Rosewood and the vision of Rosewood residents living in a community with those they have known all their lives has been maintained. We are proud to say we are still owned by the local community.

Job Description

 

Position purpose

A Nursing Assistant is a care worker, who, under the supervision of a Home Care Coordinator, delivers direct care in a client’s home/social environment within the boundaries of education and competency.

  

 

Main tasks








 

Core objectives include: 

 
  • Provides and promotes optimal client care, taking into account physical / psychological / social and spiritual needs.
  • Demonstrates competence in assisting clients with activities of daily living by implementing Community Care Common Standards.
  • Follows Care Plan/Support Plan and reports any changes to the Community Care Coordinator 
  • Provides accurate and comprehensive documentation within his / her role.
  • Encourages clients to eat and drink sufficient amounts to maintain nutritional and hydration requirements.
  • Provides assistance and encouragement to those clients with mobility problems.
  • Ensures that clients with memory loss are reassured of their surroundings
  • Ensures that the clients phone calls are responded to promptly
  • Encourages independence in activities of living as appropriate.
  • Observes and protects the client’s right to privacy, dignity and respect.
  • Reports observed changes in client’s current condition to Community Care Coordinator.
  • Participates as a member of a team, to achieve their goal of quality of life for all clients.  This is to include encouraging all clients to assist with their care as much as possible.  To ensure clients are given choices and encouraging them to choose.
  • To maintain confidentiality of information regarding clients and their care.
  • If required transport client in a safe and secure manner

Other Duties

  • Fulfil other duties as required by management and other department personnel as requested/required.
  • To express a responsible attitude to work safety.
  • To report to the Community Care Coordinator / WHSO any hazards
  • To participate in continuous improvement activities (audits/surveys).
  • To attend all Mandatory Training and other in-services as required.
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Complete CQI Forms/Hazard Forms/Feedback Forms to identify problems and make suggestions for improving the working and living environment.

Desired Skills and Experience

 

Qualifications

 
  • Has a Certificate III in Aged Care or higher
  • Current First Aid / CPR Certificate
  • Current Driver’s License
  • Medical Assist Qualification

Experience

  • Experience in Aged Care/Community Care is an advantage

Knowledge

  • Current knowledge of personal and environmental hygiene
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills with other staff and clients.
  • Knowledge of Infection Control Guidelines.
  • Familiar with The Community Care Common Standards

  • Give full details of your qualifications that are appropriate to the position of Personal Care Worker/Assistant in Nursing
 
  • Demonstrate your previous experience in Assistant in Nursing in your previous employment in the Health Care Sector.
 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Consumer Directed Care (Home Care)
 
  • Demonstrate the caring and empathetic attitude you have to the frail aged.
 
  • Demonstrate your ability to work as an effective team member of the care staff showing your time management, organisation and negotiation and conflict resolution skills as well as your ability to follow instructions from senior staff.
 
  • Demonstrate your knowledge and your ability to implement the requirements of Workplace Health and Safety and Infection Control Policies.
 
  • Demonstrate your ability to provide quality care to the clients and to maintain written records in line with the Community Care Common Standards for an appropriate lifestyle for the client.
 
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure Clients choice with care needs are within care plan guidelines.
